Becoming Men & Becoming Women: Resources from Newday 2026

Blog

5 minutes minute read

This year at Newday we are running two seminar streams built around a single conviction: that God has a vision for young men and young women that puts everything culture offers to shame.

The world is loud about what it means to be a man or a woman. But its answers are leaving a generation confused, empty, and searching. These seminar streams are designed to cut through the noise, name what's actually going on, and point toward something far better - a vision of manhood and womanhood rooted in Jesus and the Scriptures.

Whether you're attending the seminars and want to keep going, or you're a youth leader looking for resources to use with your group - everything is here for you. The talks will be available to listen to after Newday. In the meantime, download the formation guides below and use them in your own time, or work through them together.

BECOMING MEN

"Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love." - 1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Every young man is asking the same question but rarely says it out loud: what actually makes me a man?

Culture is giving loud and broken answers. The manosphere tells you its dominance, status and conquest. Social media tells you it's muscles, money and performance. But deep down, most guys know those answers aren't working. They're leaving men more isolated, more confused, and further from the people they actually want to be.

Becoming Men was four sessions that named those broken scripts honestly, faced the real battles young men are fighting, and pointed toward the one man who got it completely right - Jesus, the ultimate model of strength and sacrifice.

The Formation Guide

We put together a resource called The Man I'm Becoming - a practical formation guide to help you think through who you're becoming and what it's going to take to get there. It's not a list of rules. It's a vision planning tool, built around the life and character of Jesus, designed to be used over months not just minutes.

Come back to it at one month, three months, and six months. Let it keep working in you after Newday is over.

BECOMING WOMEN

"I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion." - Philippians 1:6

Our life is all about becoming. Who we are now is not who we will remain. But this is more than simply growing into adulthood or maturing with age and experience. Becoming Women is the intentional pathway of discipleship for every girl and woman who chooses, and keeps choosing, to follow Jesus.

We won't drift into this by following the current of our culture. God is committed to forming us into redeemed women made in His image - free from everything that once held us captive. These four sessions explored what that looks like through the lives of women in Scripture who were courageous, full of faith, poured out their hearts to God, and kept their eyes on Him.

The Sessions

Session 1: Rahab - Lies, Labels & Liberation

Session 2: Hannah - Real Faith, Real Feelings

Session 3: Miriam - All About Him

Session 4: Mary & Martha - Inner Rest, Outer Rush

The Formation Guide

The Becoming Women resource follows the frame of each session: Her Story, Their Stories, My Story. You'll encounter a woman from Scripture to understand her story, hear from women today to learn from theirs, and be invited to reflect on your own.

There is a short liturgy to help you pray, and a set of practical habits to help you intentionally partner with your Father as He shapes you to be like Jesus. Pick one and start your journey of becoming.

Becoming Women, Becoming Men – Tools for Transformation

In each of the Becoming Women seminars, a practical tool was shared to help bring our hearts to God and to grow in freedom.

These four tools are relevant to men and women and are helpful for young people and adults.

The Tools for Transformation handbook covers practical steps on how to replace lies with truth, practice honest lament, choose to forgive, and learn to listen to God’s voice.

For Youth Leaders

All these resources were designed to keep working beyond the festival. Here's how you might use them with your youth group:

  • In single-sex groups, work through one session of the Becoming Men or Becoming Women Formation Guides at a time, across four weeks. Listen to the accompanying audio recordings and use the reflection questions as a framework for small group discussion.

  • Encourage individuals to use the Formation Guide and seminar audio recordings for personal reflection and then meet with them when they have finished all the sessions to talk through what they have noticed about themselves, and how they want to grow.

  • Invite young people to choose one formation habit for an agreed period and report back on what they are learning about God and themselves as a result.

  • Use the Tools for Transformation handbook for training your youth team in their own emotional and spiritual health, as they serve the young people in your church. Focus on one tool at a time in your team meetings and cultivate a habit of returning to these regularly to embed them as discipleship practises.

  • Work through the steps of each tool as you pastor young people, teaching them teach them to follow the outline themselves. They can do this on their own, with their peers, or with support from a youth leader.
